We publish a series of office brochures in which we reflect on our own projects and place them within a broader context—whether theoretical, narrative, or historical.

The tradition of producing in-house workshop booklets was already established by the office of Karl Schwanzer and is currently being continued by Ortner & Ortner Baukunst.

With these publications, we aim to address colleagues and interested readers who are also engaged in the communication and discussion of topics that arise from everyday work in the office.

NO. 1 | THOUGHTS AND BOXES

In designing our office on Gumpendorfer Straße, we naturally gave quite a bit of thought to many aspects. Now the layered consciousness of the office of Schuberth and Schuberth can also be explored through reading.

First edition, 300 copies, 2019

No. 2 | SCENES OF A PLACE

From Althanplatz to Julius-Tandler-Platz – a journey through time. At this location, two of our projects have, in a sense, become neighbors. How a kiss on the Strudelhofstiege, the design by Prof. Karl Schwanzer, and an overturned high-rise are connected is revealed here.

Design and typesetting: Lisa Kröll, Vienna, 48 pages, 21 x 26 cm, 1st edition of 300 copies, 2019

No. 3 | THE INTERPLAY OF LIGHT AND SHADOW – RATHAUSSTRASSE 1

The booklet on the new BUWOG headquarters illustrates how, in a city, many elements are interwoven: the buildings of the Ringstrasse era, rule and rule-breaking, the Forum Cinema and the Glass Palace, an old candy shop on Stadiongasse, architectural competitions with 145 submissions, box-type windows and double façades, double-height storeys and underground parking garages carved deep into the rock. Structural continuities everywhere.

No. 4 | METAPHERS. ON BEGINNING AND LETTING GO

An exploration of the creative—and sometimes successful—life, expressed through idioms and figurative language. The world as a stage or life as a sea voyage, with light and shadow or perhaps only dreamed: the playful power of metaphor invites us to spin ideas further and to open up new ways of seeing the world.

The chapters can be associated with concepts from ancient Greek philosophy and revolve around being creative and attempts for a fulfilled life.

There was also an exhibition on the topic of "metaphors" in the Portier.
